Five Sussex Brands You Need To Know About

Trendy bars, cafes, and boutiques line the sunny coast of East Sussex and with such a diverse number of things to do here, it is no wonder it's a destination favourite for Londoners. The region offers local, independent boutiques who's inimitable style is breathing life back into the fashion scene.

We've done a bit of digging and have discovered five standout brands and boutiques by the seaside you'll not want to miss. To discover our favourite five, read on.

 Founded in 2014 by Susie Cave, wife to Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave, and her friend and business partner Alex Adamson, The Vampire's Wife has gone from strength to strength. With celebrities such as Chloe Grace Moretz, Kylie Minogue, Alexa Chung, and Daisy Lowe all gushing over the designer pieces, it's no wonder this has made the top of our list. Brighton-based Cave's dresses come in an ornate assortment of fabrics: metallic lamé pink, silver, emerald-green and purple; colourfully printed cottons, velvets, and jumbo cords. Varying in length from ankle to mini, each dress possess a mysterious ability to hypnotize.

Sugarhill Brighton

 Sugarhill Brighton had humble beginnings in Barcelona in 2002 with its founder Pawel opening a store in the buzzing Spanish city. Along with her sister Aleks, the dynamic duo designed and produced all of their clothing in Bali, Indonesia, and saw their brand skyrocket. In 2006, the brand was relocated to the sunny seaside town in Brighton and so Sugarhill Brighton was born. 

Their designs can now be found on their e-commerce platform, select independent boutiques in Brighton and around the world, as well as major high street retailer John Lewis.

Lewes in East Sussex was once home to King Henry VIII's fourth wife, Anne of Cleaves, and is visited by many tourists each year. The picturesque cobbled high street is also the abode of Mint Velvet, a quaint boutique founded in 2009 by three lovely locals who, inspired by a desire to inject some creativity into their lives, set about curating a collection which was contemporary, stylish, and had a luxe everyday feel to it, without the matching price tag. A rumoured fashion aficionado herself, what would Anne have made of Mint Velvet?
