Let The Outside In; Home Decor inspiration for Summer

The British summertime; a phrase synonymous with outdoor parties, Royal Ascot and whimsical weekends away. But the joy of being outside doesn't have to end come October. Louise Akrofi, owner and interior stylist at The Good Look, will be letting us in on her tips and tricks and providing you with the decor inspiration you need to create a cosy indoor space this season.

Prints

The 'outside-in' trend is all about the exploration of different textures. A great way to integrate this style into your home is through the use of tropical prints.

East London-based luxury lifestyle and interiors brand, House of Hackney, has been instrumental in the revival of tropical glam in the UK, with their vast array of decadent and daring products, such as their William Morris-inspired wallpaper designs, and stunning accessories.

Vibrant prints can also be used on cushions, throws and table runners if a more subtle approach is preferred.

Colours

Painting our walls is a big commitment so getting it right is essential in your quest to bringing the outside into your home. Contemplate the colours that inspired you on your last trip abroad. Croatia? Santorini? Maybe you were sunning yourself on a yacht in Monaco.

Earthy green tones and rich terracottas bring instant vibrancy to your living space and make a good base for a variety of natural textures. If the use of bold colours is outside of your comfort zone, consider pale blues, corals and pinks - colours associated with calm and coastal getaways.

For a more understated look, I would recommend neutral colours which act as a great base for a bold contrast wall. Team it up with a pair of brass or gold wall lights and you've got a chic, outdoorsy vibe already.

Wood

Wood is the most common natural product many of us have in our homes. Rattan and Bamboo furniture and accessories are my personal favourites this season.

They complement spaces that evoke the essence of summer, while wood varieties like oak, teak and pine are standard and cost-effective ways to add a rustic texture to your living space all year round.

Start with wooden occasional tables, sideboards or a nice statement wooden dining table set.

Flora & Fauna

Greenery is key when it comes to successfully tying together the 'outdoor-indoor' look. Large indoor plants have been an essential interior feature in many homes across Sussex since the trend skyrocketed in the spring of last year.

Fauna varieties such as Ficus Lyrata (or Fiddle Leaf Figs) are extremely popular due to their large statement leaves and are generally low maintenance. Classic house plants like Yucca and Bamboo have height and are perfect for those corners in the house that need attention.

Not the ‘dig-around-your-nearest-garden-center’ type of woman? Fear not, help is here. As our lifestyles become even busier, many of us are opting for realistic looking artificial plants and flowers. Gone are the days of stiff looking, '80s style silk flowers.

Realistic faux greenery can now be found online and in most high street home stores. British lifestyle company, Neptune, sells an assortment of everlasting faux plants, flowers and succulents in a variety of gorgeous seasonal styles and colours.
